When I was a boy, I developed an obsession about steam trains. By the time I left school I had met up with others of like mind and between us we scoured the globe recording the might iron horse, often in its last days at various locations. “Where There’s Smoke” is a 2 volume series, showcasing the best of our efforts. Many of our photos have featured in books and magazines in several countries. Here we present many never before published images that represent the best of our work. We hope you will enjoy viewing them as much as we did “getting the shots”.

About The BookS

Way back in the 1970s steam trains were quickly disappearing around the world. Much of Europe had little steam by the end of the 1960s, but it survived in China until very recently, although only in a coal mine! Over 50 years, our group travelled to remote parts of the world, often taking unreasonable risks top record the might steam loco in its natural habitat, using our photographic skills and resources to record high quality images of steam trains in regular action.

This book is produced in 2 parts, simply because we couldn’t fit everything in to the one publication. Part 1 covers Scotland to the Cape covering Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Part 2 ventures into ASIA, Latin America and Australasia. Click on the “Discover More” button to view a selection of the images.

Part 1 is 160 pages covering The UK, Europe, Middle East and Turkey and the dark continent of Africa. Part 2 is 192 pages covering Asia, Australasia and the Americas. All images are full colour and reproduced using the latest scanning techniques to bring them back to life. These are images that will take your breath away.
